De Zeshoek Geldermalsen

ITO Project | Bachelor studio project 5

Individual | 2011

Multicultural centre in downtown Geldermalsen. This re-developing of the former school De Zeshoek houses a library, a small radio station, various rooms for cultural activities, a café and a park. The wish to maintain the view on the river Linge resulted in a sunken library. In order to get natural light in the library several patios and ‘hills’ are created. This forms the park and the library, it integrates both functions. Also the view on the old resisting part of De Zeshoek remains intact. The integration is strengthened by the use of timber window frames, which also functions as a fence at a higher level. This project was about integrating structural design and architecture, after this project I decided that a double master track was what I want.
